The buildings of the future must be conceived and built from a holistic perspective where the focus is on energy efficiency, CO2 neutrality, a sound and healthy indoor climate and architectural quality. As a people-centred concept, an Active House will contribute to sustainability by balancing three parameters: Energy, indoor climate and environment.

VKR Holding backs the Active House concept and wants to contribute to spreading the knowledge of this new form of sustainable building. Thus, in April 2009 VKR Holding took part in the development of an Active House portal designed to cover all climate and energy friendly houses built to the Active House principle. The companies in the VKR Group initiated in 2008 construction of eight demonstration houses in several European countries, to be built according to the Active House principles. The houses produce energy and are constructed as examples of intelligent buildings with low energy consumption, a healthy indoor climate and outstanding architecture. The demo houses are built by VELFAC, VELUX and SONNENKRAFT in a cooperation including also WindowMaster.
