At the end of 2010 the Hørsholm municipality will be able to open a climatically, environmentally and energetically sound child day-care centre with accommodation for 115 children. The integrated child day-care centre (day nursery and kindergarten) will be built at Breeltevej in a partnership between the Hørsholm municipality and VKR Holding. The centre aims to become the leading environment- and climate-friendly institution in Denmark. The architectural design must integrate energy and environment equipment.

The energy and environment solutions are donated to the Hørsholm municipality by VKR Holding, which will also be at service with know-how in the project and construction phases. The solutions will include roof windows, vertical windows, ventilation equipment, solar heat systems, and sunscreening products. The child day-care centre will be built according to the latest Active House principles, meaning among other things that by generating electricity and heat from solar energy the centre will be self-sufficient in energy. Once the house is in use, VKR Holding will have access to do research in its indoor climate, and VKR Holding will also be allowed to show the house – in particular the environment- and climate-friendly elements - to scientists, politicians and customers – in due consideration of the normal run of the centre.
