The Active House unit ”Haus der Zukunft” (House of the Future) demonstrates that even today it is possible to achieve energy efficient houses that live up to future requirements for sustainable buildings. The house is unique in that by combining solar cells, an innovative solar heating system, low-energy windows, etc. it produces more energy than it consumes.
So it lives up to future German legislation requiring all new buildings constructed from 2019 to generate their own energy. The house is built by SONNENKRAFT in association with among others VELUX, VELFAC and WindowMaster. Architect: Stephan Fabi. For a six-month period after its opening on 17 September 2009, the House of the Future will serve as a demonstration house. After this period the house will be sold to a family who will test how they experience everyday life there.
