The family moves in

On 1 July the Simonsen family moved into the Active House located in Lystrup near Aarhus. In their diary you can read how they experience living in a house of the future – Home for Life.

To give us an impression of how they experience living in the house, the Simonsen family keep a diary on a monthly basis. Below you can read about the family’s first month in the house.

Indoor climate
The very first days we observed that the air is fresh and pleasant. We sleep well at night, better than in our old house. In spite of the heat wave (27-28 degrees C) during the first days of July the house did not feel too hot.

The overhang over the terrace and the balcony facing south in combination with ventilation through roof windows on the first floor apparently fulfil their purpose.

Light
The light in Home for Life is INCREDIBLE! And so is the view! The window area is obviously much larger than in a usual detached house. Through the large landscape windows in the family room we have a view towards the east, south and west. The floor of the family room connects with the flagstones on the terrace, only split by a glass wall. Outdoors and indoors are perceived as one unbroken room. This perception is preserved by the thin window frame which does not block the view.
