One of the Active House units, “Home for Life”, is distinctive for having twice as much fenestration as a typical single family home, open-plan interiors and flexible layouts. The first of these homes opened in April 2009 and is located near Aarhus in Denmark. The house is built by VELFAC in association with among others VELUX, SONNENKRAFT and WindowMaster. In July 2009 a family moved into the model home for a year. This, combined with various technical measurements, will give the most true-to-life impression of the model home’s everyday living factor. The estimated energy consumption for the home is -9 kWh/m2/year, meaning that it will be generating more energy than it consumes.
