Historical background
In holistic sustainable buildings of the future it is not enough to reduce energy consumption through insulation and turning the buildings towards south in order to exploit the passive heating. There are many additional values to consider.
Active Houses focus on combining aesthetics with comfort and new energy technologies while also taking into account special local traditions and climatic condition.
The inspiration is more than 2,000 years old More than 2,000 years ago Roman architect Vitruvius defined architecture as the trinity between “beauty, usability and durability”. This trinity is still the foundation for architecture in modern society today.
In Active Houses a holistic focus is maintained by rephrasing and redefining Vitruvius’ trinity as ”energy, indoor climate and environment”.
Vision The vision is that Active Houses with a holistic perspective will show the way and set new standards for sustainable buildings of the future.
