Winning team found
The Hørsholm municipality has presented the winning team in the architectural competition for its new Active House child day-care centre.

Hellerup Byg contractors have in cooperation with Christensen & Co. Architects and Rambøll Engineering worked out an exciting building proposal, which combines energy optimisation with new exciting architecture. Inside and outside, the building meets all the requirements made by Hørsholm municipality for the development of a very special environmentally and energetically sound building for children and staff.

”In this really exciting project the building team has understood the municipality’s wish to combine architecture, interior arrangement and layout, energy supply and pedagogic-functional principles in the most optimal ways. This building can serve as an inspiration for necessary awareness of the climate, not only to the children and future generations but also to the parents and the staff, who will now have the opportunity to experience an Active House in everyday life”, says the local politician Michael Medom Hansen, who is chairman of the children and school committee.

The integrated institution is meant to gather children from two existing institutions in Hørsholm, and the cooperation with VKR Holding is the reason why special focus of the building has been on indoor climate, architecture and energy.

”We are pleased to be part of this exciting partnership with Hørsholm municipality for the development of an exemplary model of sound and energy-producing children day-care centres, probably the first of its kind in the world”, says CEO of VKR Holding, Leif Jensen.

Energy-optimised windows with self-ventilation and automatic sunscreening, solar heat, heat pump and wooden cladding are some of the products supplied by VKR as part of our present. The products contribute to providing a sound indoor climate and learning environment for both children and adults.

The child day-care centre is scheduled to be finalised in the autumn of 2010. By that time the entrepreneur “Lions Børnehuse” will be ready to implement its visions of climate and energy education.
