The VILLUM FOUNDATION
www.villumfonden.dk
The foundation has the specific objective of presenting the Villum Kann Rasmussen Annual Award for Technical and Scientific Research. In addition, the foundation supports major scientific, artistic, cultural and social projects.
The VILLUM FOUNDATION’s statutes were in 2009 amplified to incorporate environmental purposes. This reflects the aim of encouraging greater commitment to the environment and climate, which are among the greatest global challenges facing this generation and those to come.
Examples of donations from the VILLUM FOUNDATION in 2010:
-
The VILLUM FOUNDATION funded the establishment of new, disability-friendly and sustainable premises to house the Hungarian Bátor Tábor Foundation's voluntary staff at the organisation's summer camp for children with rheumatic diseases, cancer and diabetes. Thanks to the new buildings, which opened in June 2010, the Bátor Tábor Foundation will be able to increase camp capacity by 66 new beds.
-
Since 2007, the VILLUM FOUNDATION has sought to support projects to improve living conditions and social prospects for children and young people in Greenland. The Foundation has donated DKK 60 million to date to these projects, the most recent of which – a new hall of residence for student engineers in Sisimut – opened in August 2010.
-
In 2008, the VILLUM FOUNDATION donated DKK 2.5 million for the establishment of Academy Compass in Gdansk, Poland, which provides a well-equipped and friendly drop-in centre off the streets for around 300 children who have the opportunity to attend the centre's training and education activities in culture, sport and social integration. The centre opened in September 2010.
